Farewell to a Caribbean Social Work pioneer - Dr. John A. Maxwell 

Dr. John A. Maxwell joined The UWI Mona in 1971 as a Lecturer in the Department of Sociology and Social Work (now Department of Sociology, Psychology and Social Work). He was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 1989 and served as Head of Department from 1993 to 2000 and then as Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences.


Dr. Maxwell retired after 35 years of service to the institution. Among his achievements is his contribution to the development of social work education in the Caribbean, and the central role he played in starting and editing the Caribbean Journal of Social Work.


Dr. John Aidan Maxwell is and will remain a pioneer for Caribbean Social Work.
