Dr. Jarrel De Matas is Assistant Professor in the Department of Bioethics and Health Humanities at the University of Texas Medical Branch. He earned is BA and MA from The University of the West Indies and his PhD from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Jarrel’s dissertation was titled Caribbean Scientia: Science, Reimagined through Science Fiction. His debut book is titled Opinions in Review 2023, a collection of newspaper columns he has and continues to write for the Daily Express. He currently has eighteen publications. His next book, currently under contract with Routledge focuses on Caribbean science fiction. Jarrel is also the founder and executive director of All Inclusive TT, a nonprofit organization in Trinidad and Tobago which focuses on youth mental health and school bullying prevention.
