Saluting Dr Sandra Williams Phillips MBBS DCH DM FACC FHRS FESC FASE FAHA FACHT JP – distinguished Cardiologist who has achieved the aforementioned accomplishments.
She is a three time graduate of UWI, MBBS [1981], Diploma in Child Health,[1983] Doctor of Medicine (Paediatrics) [1986].
In June and July of 2018 she became a Fellow in Heart Rhythm Society (USA) and a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Trustees (FACHT). Prior to this she became a Fellow European Society of Cardiology (category Scientific Excellence) (FESC) [2013], Fellow American Society of Echocardiography (FASE)[2014], Fellow American Heart Association (FAHA) [2014 and Fellow American College of Cardiology (FACC) [2016].
She is currently the Chief of Paediatric Cardiology, Consultant Paediatric, Adolescent & Adult Congenital Cardiologist at the Andrews Memorial Hospital, Kingston, Jamaica.
A Jamaican, educated at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, obtaining MB.BS (1981), Diploma in Child Health (DCH) (1983) and Doctor of Medicine in Pediatrics (1986). She was competitively selected for both a Commonwealth Scholarship (declined) and a British Chevening Scholarship, (accepted), in 1993 to pursue a Clinical Fellowship in Pediatric Cardiology. After decades of hard work and dedication Dr. Sandra Williams-Phillips has become the One & only in Jamaica and the Caribbean and One and only Pediatrician & Cardiologist from the inception of the University of the West Indies who have received all aforementioned Accolades & Validation.
With the requisite Publications and work in respective areas, validation and support of international and national colleagues, Dr. Williams-Phillips became a Fellow in the European Society of Cardiology in the category of Scientific Excellence in 2013 and Emeritus Fellow in 2023, Fellow in the American Society of Echocardiography and Fellow in the American Heart Association in 2014, Fellow in American College of Cardiology (2016) and Emeritus Fellow in 2023, Fellow Heart Rhythm Society (2018) and Fellow American College of Healthcare Trustees (2018), Fellow Royal College of Physicians (2024) and Fellow Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (2024).

Her research in Sickle Cell Disease that was published in peer review Journal of Paediatrics, in conjunction with others led to National Cord Blood Screening for Sickle Cell Disease, in Jamaica. She conceptualized and initiated the first Adolescent and Adult Congenital Cardiac Clinic in Jamaica (2010) and currently have over 25 Cardiac Publications, in three Continents America, Europe and Asis, in countries; U.S.A., Europe, Japan, Russia, and our own West Indian Medical Journal, all as 1st Author, and Sole author for 21, many of whom have been cited.
Dr. Williams-Phillips is the sole author and principal Investigator for four (4) Ethics approved Research Protocols. Paediatric & Congenital Cardiology, Congenital Cardiac Screening and diagnoses and management of Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology patients comprise the major aspect of her Clinical work.
At a national level, she was Head of the team of Cardiologists and Cardiac Technicians, who performed successfully, Mandatory Congenital Cardiac Screening required by Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), of Under-17 team of Jamaica Football Federation Football Athletes (ie. Young Reggae Boyz), who qualified for World Cup Football in Mexico in 2011.
Dr. Williams-Phillps has provided service as a Paediatrician (for over 30 years) and Paediatric, Adolescent and
Adult Congenital Cardiology (for over 20 years) to a working-class community in St. Catherine, providing access to Paediatric and Cardiology care. She is a strong advocate for Congenital Cardiac Disease which is the most common Congenital lesion.
