"One UWI, One Alumni Family"

The Mona Campus 75th Book club

book readings - a way to combine literature and the 75th Anniversary

PROJECT BACKGROUND

OBJECTIVES

This initiative was proposed and developed by Cassandra Brenton, Publications Editor, and is part of The UWI’s 75th anniversary celebrations. It aims to highlight notable books, assist high school students recover from COVID-19 learning losses, and encourage self-love and peace education through Literature.

LEARNING RECOVERY AND MOTIVATION

One of the key components of this initiative was to assist our high school prospects to recover from COVID-19 learning losses through live readings and motivational interactions with key authors. To this end, we will invite writers to engage prospects every last Thursday during our anniversary year. The texts ranged from prescribed literature texts to motivational books.

AMBASSADOR

Ms. Jada Powell (student) was delegated as an ambassador for this initiative and Mrs. Natasha Bowen-Brown (MarComm) hosted the event each week. These sessions happened every last Thursday on the Chapel Lawn. Each session begins at 1:30 p.m. and ends at 2:00 p.m.
