UWI alumna, Mrs. Dalcyon Mattocks was very committed to contributing to Jamaica's national development, through the education of the nation's children. For this very reason, she was served for decades as a teacher in primary education. Determined to enhance her knowledge and capacity to positively shape and inspire the minds of the country's future leaders, she successfully obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Education from the Faculty of Humanities and Education at The UWI. She taught at Boundbrook Infant School in Portland, St. Ann's Bay Primary School in St. Ann, and Mona Heights Primary School in Str. Andrew, the latter while completing her Bachelor's Degree at The UWI.
As a UWI graduate, she was proud to be a part of this distinguished tertiary education fraternity, and additionally, very proud to have all her children also graduate from The UWI. This was a testament to her love and appreciation of her Alma Mater, as she entrusted the education of her most precious loved ones to The UWI.
She enriched The University of the West Indies with her presence; used her university education to contribute to national development through the shaping of the nation's young minds, and ensured that her children were also beneficiaries of the quality education offered by The UWI. She was a wife, mother, teacher and proud member of The UWI Family.
